The healthcare management (HCM) degree is offered at the bachelor's or master's level, and is intended to provide an education that combines best business practice methods with specific education focused on healthcare service, cost and quality of care. If you wish to work in the field of healthcare management, the bachelor's program can get you in the door. If you are already working in healthcare management, the HCM master's program can enable you to sharpen your business skills and advance to the executive level.
The HCM component is often part of a BBA or MBA program, the Bachelor or Master of Business Administration in Health Care Management. These programs will provide you with all of the business and management courses typical of a BBA or MBA program, with additional coursework in health care organization and administration, managing health care organizations, evaluation and research of health services programs, health care finance and health care law.
Yet another interdisciplinary program, offered at the master's level, combines the HCM focus with the MBA and the MSN degrees. This type of degree program will prepare you to manage nursing operations in any size of healthcare organization or as part of a nursing education program.
