Healthcare and Human Services Degrees
The fields of healthcare and human services encompass all manner of professions, ranging from hands-on patient care and counseling to office
administration to education and public policy. If you're a caring person who'd like to work in a field where you can use your skills to help others,
you're almost certain to find a degree or diploma program in healthcare or human services to match your interests. At the diploma or associate's level,
aspiring healthcare workers can prepare to work in careers ranging from nurse (LPN or RN), to medical assistant, physical therapy assistant, radiographic
technician or EMT/paramedic. Can't stand the sight of blood? A degree or certificate in healthcare administration or medical transcription may be more
to your liking. Bachelor's and Master's level study can further advance your nursing career, or open up professional options such as healthcare management
or public health administration.. You can also pursue pre-med studies to prepare you to for a postgraduate course of study that can ultimately lead to
an M.D., D.D.S. or other professional medical qualification. One particularly hot field right now is that of Gerontology, as the rapidly aging population
is in need of professionals sensitive to its needs. Human services career fields include social work, counseling, psychology, rehabilitation, and
corrections. With a human services associate or bachelor's degree you could work for a government agency at the local, state, or federal level. At the
master's level you could prepare for work in human services administration, or earn an M.A. in psychology and go into clinical or counseling practice.
A PhD in any human services discipline will allow you to pursue high-level research or teach at the university level.
