Online Degrees in Customer Service

Customer Service Degrees

To many consumers, the phrase "customer service" has lately begun to seem like a contradiction in terms. Frustrated by being caught in endless voice mail loops or being routed to overseas call centers, it is no wonder most people feel a sense of dread whenever they need to call a company to get some customer support. Many companies are beginning to catch on at last and are taking steps to upgrade their customer service offerings by opening domestic call centers with well-trained personnel capable of providing real help.

If you would like to enter the customer service field, which can even offer such perks as the ability to work from home from a "virtual call center", you'll be very attractive to any potential employer with a degree or certificate in customer service. These degrees are typically offered at the associate or diploma level, through community or technical colleges and training centers. In a customer service program you will learn excellent communication skills and the necessary technology skills to be able to interact with customers by phone, via email or through live chat sessions. You'll learn the necessary etiquette to be able to work with customers in a face-to-face setting as well, and upon graduation could find yourself sought after for positions with employers such as travel agencies, airlines, utility companies, credit bureaus and collection agencies.
